Wellons Canada

The state-of-the-art in lumber drying is the Wellons multizone computer-controlled kiln, using Winkiln software, which uses the temperature-drop-across-the-load (TDAL) principle to monitor and control the entire drying process. This technology can be applied to batch track kilns, side-loading kilns, or continuous dry kilns (CDK).

Our control system produces consistently high-grade charges of lumber and faster, more uniform drying to meet the demand for better lumber.

Multiple Zones Of Control

The state-of-the-art in lumber drying is the Wellons Computerized Multizone Controlled (CMZ) lumber dry kiln, which utilizes the temperature drop across the load principle to monitor and control the lumber drying process. As the demand for better drying control has increased, the added sophistication of multizoning a lumber dry kiln has proven its value. More control of the drying process, and the resulting reduction of lumber degrade and faster, more uniform drying, means increased mill revenue.

Optimum drying rates are achieved through the use of multiple electronic sensors for temperature control, and the use of a computer for overall kiln control. Temperature Drop Across the Load (TDAL) is the primary measurement used in obtaining the fastest, most efficient means of drying each charge of lumber.

Winkiln is a non “black box” technology that uses off-the-shelf OPTO 22 or PLC I/O; or it can be configured using a PLC in a true HMI format.

With the ability to control single zone direct-fired kilns, or twenty-four zone indirectly-heated kilns, Winkiln is a highly user friendly and flexible kiln control technology.

Customization

Wellons’ own computer specialists have developed the operating software and customize the program for each customer’s specific drying operation. As the program is enhanced and upgraded, the newest version is made available to every licensed Wellons customer. This means that whether built today or in years past a Wellons kiln remains the industry standard.

Moisture Measurement (TruMark)

To enhance drying control and grade quality, the Winkiln drying control software can be integrated  with Wellons’ Trumark System. This system provides reliable moisture measurement above and below fibre saturation in order to advance or retard the drying schedule, achieving optimal drying performance. With TruMark, schedule development and refinement is both easier and more precise.
