District Heating Systems
Wellons has been a key participant in the development of a number of district heating systems in the US and Canada.
Each energy systems is custom designed based on temperature and load profile requirements. Steam and Hot Water systems are available ranging in size from 3 MW (10 MM Btu/hr) to 26 MW (90 MM Btu/hr).

Steam Systems
Wellons is capable of converting an existing fossil fuel steam district heating system to biomass, or building a new district heating system with combined heat and power (CHP) capability.
Project Examples
Lockheed Martin System Integration, Inc.
Two x 600 HP boilers (40,000 pph) 300 psi steam
Steam used for space heating and cooling in 1,000,000 ft2 complex with multiple buildings and to power a 750 KW turbine.
Wellons Canada scope included fuel storage, step grate combustor, boiler, and emissions control equipment.
Chillicothe Veterans Affairs Medical Center
1 x 600 HP (20,000 PPH) boiler, 400 psi steam
Steam used for space heating and cooling in a complex with numerous buildings and to power a 500 KW turbine.
Wellons Canada scope included fuel storage, step grate combustor, boiler, and emissions control equipment.
Canandaigua Veterans Affairs Medical Center
Two x 300 HP (20,000 PPH) boiler, 400 psi steam
Steam used for space heating and cooling in a complex with numerous buildings and a 400 KW turbine.
Wellons Canada scope included fuel storage, step grate combustor, boiler, and emissions control equipment.
District Heating
Hot Water Systems
Many new district heating systems utilize hot water due to the lower capital cost and higher efficiency of hot water systems as opposed to steam systems. Wellons provides a range of clean biomass energy solutions for new district heating systems or converting an existing system fired by fuel oil or coal.
