A key element for ensuring a biomass fired energy system operates reliably and continuously is creating an uninterrupted and automatic supply of fuel. The Wellons silo fuel storage bin system is developed specifically to handle and deliver a wide variety of biomass fuels at a controlled rate to the energy system.

Automatic & Efficient

Gravity performs the greatest portion of the conveying in the silo bin reducing power consumption to the lowest possible levels. Minimum service is required since the mechanical conveying equipment is simple and effective.

Fuel Mixing & Blending

When using a combination of fuel types, multiple bins can be supplied. With multiple bins, fuel from a dry bin is metered and blended with fuel from a wet bin to obtain an optimal mix for combustion.

A Wide Range Of Storage Capacities

The Wellons silo type storage bin is available in 24 standard capacities. Depending on the energy system's fuel requirements, the fuel bins can provide capacities ranging from short-term “day” storage to unattended weekend storage.

Biomass Fuel Silos

Unique Design Elements

The Wellons silo fuel storage bin combines a negative slope storage section with a powered agitator in the cone section

Unique in the industry, the motor-driven agitator rotates on its own axis as it travels around the periphery of the cone section, undermining the bridging and arching that occurs and loosening material so that it can flow down to the outfeed section.

The Wellons severe duty agitator is ratchet driven by a pneumatic cylinder drive which controls the force of the agitator against the fuel. The drive is designed to operate with such fuels as hogged bark and other materials with high shear strength characteristics. Fuel resistance controls the rate of agitator movement around the cone.

Biomass Fuel Silos

Optional Base Enclosure

Wellons can provide an optional base enclosure for the lower cone portion of the silo. This feature provides weather protection and enhances reliability of the fuel feed-out and serves as a convenient storage area.

Biomass Fuel Systems

Supplemental Equipment

Wellons provides a range of fuel receiving, preparation, and conveying equipment for delivery both to and from the storage bin. This equipment may consist of one or more of the following:

Infeed Hoppers

Belt, Screw, and Chain Conveyors

Bucket Elevators

Classification Stands

Hogs and Screens

Fuel Reclaimers
